Malaika's Hospital Fund

Donativo protegido
Hi there! As you all know, my little sister Malaika was admitted to the ER on Saturday after fainting at a basketball game and an episode of being unresponsive.

After being admitted to the ER, they ran several tests on Malaika, including blood tests, urine tests, and a CT scan. After Malaika had been stable for a few hours, St. Mary's made the decision to transfer Malaika to Women and Children's Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Since being admitted to the hospital Saturday night, Malaika has been unable to speak and has had very limited mobility (for example, it takes several minutes for her to move from a laying down, to a seated position and then get out of bed). They have run multiple tests, including a brain MRI, a spinal MRI, a more detailed urine test, and more blood tests. Malaika is also seeing multiple doctors a day, including a neurologist, a speech therapist, a physical therapist, a team from Psych, and more.

They have been unable to find a cause for Malaika's symptoms. Though they are currently leaning towards a diagnosis of Conversion Disorder, they are still unsure and continue to run tests. If you'd like to learn more about Conversion Disorder, you can click here . The doctors feel it would be best for Malaika to be moved to an in-patient therapy facility, since she is showing no improvement in her speech or mobility.

As many of you know, my mom is a single mom who is the sole monetary provider for my family. As a state worker, she also does not have good health insurance. At a time like this, my mom's sole focus should be Malaika and doing whatever she can to get the care for my sister that she needs to get better, but of course she is worried about the bills that are going to start piling up. Since the doctors don't yet know what is causing Malaika's symptoms, there is no way to know how long she will need to stay in a facility/how many more tests will need to be run before she gets better and can be sent home.

All of you who know my mom know that she hates asking for help, especially when it comes to money; however, in this situation we do not have much of a choice. In order to ensure that Malaika continues to get the care that she needs, I am asking (my family is asking) that if you are able and willing, that you consider donating. No contribution is too small, even $10 is $10 more than we have right now.

We appreciate all of the help, love, and compassion that has been showered on our family the past several days - none of it has gone unnoticed. And even if you are unable to give, we ask that you continue to pray, send positive thoughts/good vibes for Malaika's complete healing.

Please reach out to anyone in my family if you have further questions (my mom and grandparents are pretty busy physically taking care of Malaika, so you can feel free to reach out to me, even if you don't know me that well). Thank you so much everyone!
