Help Mathieu Enjoy His Time Left
English version after french.
Bonjour,
Hello,
I have never done this before. But I need help to be able to help someone. And someone suggested this site. I am his best friend and wrote this for him .
My ex or now very best friend, not long ago after his 40th birthday ended up at the hospital with congestive heart failure. His heart is at about 8 to 10%. He spent the summer at the hospital and against all odds he came out in September and had two amazing months.
I helped him move to Blainville while he was doing quite well so he could be close to his two daughters that are 5 and 6 years old.
He unfortunately started to become sick in December. So
I brought him to Montreal for three months in January since he could not be alone anymore.
In the middle of February I called an ambulance since that day he was VERY confused, had bad abdominal cramps and had lost a lot of weight. That night, we were told that his heart was not pumping enough oxygen to go to his brain(hence the confusion) and was not sending enough oxygen to his organs. They said his liver had stopped working and that he had a few days left to live. But again he beat the odds and came out of the hospital.
One very good thing came out of this. The clsc got involved. He was assigned a kind of palliative group. A nurse started coming every morning and every late afternoon.
To check his vitals and check up on him.
This was very reassuring for me since i no longer had to wonder, should we go to the hospital? Is this or that normal.
Now i knew which symptoms were normal and what to look for etc. We also had access to a doctor pretty much anytime.
He did not have insurance where he worked and now gets a small amount of money from welfare monthly. Which is no where near enough for everything he needs. Especially eating very well and drinking certain medical type of ensures etc
He is not well again and gets confused again sometimes so since he shpuld not be alome, i will be bringing him to Montreal so he can do all the necessary tests at the hospital and then come to my house.
We had managed to buy him a scooter back in november. I bargained with an extremly nice man on kijiji and his mother was able to buy it for him. Sadly it broke three days later . And we were not able to get it fixed. It would br extremely useful to have when he has good days.
Im saying this since it says on this site to exolain a bit where the money will go or what it will be used for.
I also do not have a sofa. Which i need to get to welcome him (a comfortable one so it does not affect his chronic pain in his back, neck etc). This is for him, not for me.
His activities are limited and watching tv is one he does a lot.
I'm also not going to buy a new or expensive one. Kijiji or salvation army etc will be fine. I just want him comfortable since he watches a lot of tv from being stuck inside.
In Blainville he is in a basement apartment with no access to a yard or outside space. So another advantage to bringing him to my place is that i have a big big yard.
He could finally spend time sitting outdoors which i think would do him wonders mentally and physically! And we will organise bringing his fixed quadriporteur (scooter) to montreal for good days to get to parks or Lachal canal etc.
So another thing i would like to purchase him is a very comfortable outdoor chair that doesn't affect his chronic pain. The chairs i have are good for me but not for him.
Again these are things he can keep. I am not purchasing things for me.
We would like to use money towards being able to have his kids come visit him in Montreal when possible.
And have the necessary money for what they need and to be able to do activities with them, like going to a park which they love. These things will have to be done by taxi.
If he is having good days it would be nice to be able to activities he enjoys like bringing him to the movies for example.
I help as much as i can of course. But two people on a budget for one is hard and stressful.
Of course a lot of the money will go towards groceries. And be able to follow his dietician diet which is not cheap but important.
My amazing neighbor once again offered to cook. She is an angel.
I got a small surgery last week and I am supposed to rest a bit. I am not supposed to lift heavy things or do too much for a couple of weeks. And he cannot cook or clean or any of that.
A bit of help for that for a couple of weeks will be extremely helpful as well.
Basically i need help to be able to help him.
All money is to be able to help him. Not me.
He is alone and not ready for a hospice etc. He wants to be at my place for a while until he hopefully gets better and then can hopefully go back home and be ok on his own with help
I will never leave him alone of course.
All help is extremely touching and appreciated. Even just kind words and encouragement without a donation goes a very long way.
So thank you very very much from me and Mathieu from the bottom the bottom of our hearts! No words can express the appreciation. Its very touching.
