In just 3 short weeks, we lost both our father and mother.

My mother, Mai Cha Yang, was admitted to the Sheboygan Aurora Memorial Medical Center on Sunday, April 10th for a swollen throat due to a fish bone that she felt had gotten lodged in her throat two weeks prior.

 

After getting transferred to St Luke’s and spending weeks in the hospital, her infection worsen and on the night of Tuesday, May 10th, my mother went into cardiac arrest. She remained unresponsive and on a ventilator. The doctors explained to our family that her quality of life would diminished even if she did wake up. On Saturday, May 14th, our family made the very difficult decision to pull my mother off the ventilator. She left us moments after being pulled off.

Three weeks into planning my mother’s funeral, my father, Yeng Lee, got admitted to the Sheboygan Aurora Memorial Medical Center on Wednesday, June 1st for a ruptured diverticulitis. Doctors explained to our family that he was chronically ill and the chances of him surviving was very low. They rushed him to surgery that same night and he remained unresponsive and on a ventilator afterwards.

On Friday, June 3rd, the doctors explained to us that morning, that the infection had spread throughout his entire body and his kidneys had both failed overnight. Our family then made the very difficult decision again to pull my dad off the ventilator. He also, left us moments after being pulled off. 

My mother’s funeral service will be held from June 25-27th, 2022 at the Hmong Culture Service Center in Sheboygan, WI. 

The dates for my father’s funeral is still yet to be determined and will be planned after we complete my mother’s funeral.
