Hello, my name is Sarah Bowden and I am the Team Parent Rep for the Smash Raiders 17U Cyclones Volleyball Team. On Monday January 27th, we lost one of our own. At 16 years of age, Madelyn was involved in a tragic car accident that took her life. She was our setter, our rock and shining star. Madelyn was not only a talented player but also a beloved daughter, friend and teammate. Her presence on and off the court will be profoundly missed.

During this difficult time, we lean on our communities to rally together, to support one another and to remember Madelyn. Her parents, Julie and Jeff, are facing the worst nightmare any parent could imagine. No parent should ever have to bury their child. This senseless tragedy is beyond comprehension.

Through friends, family and the sporting communities that Madelyn has touched, our team is hoping to give back to her family so that they may honour her memory. These funds will go towards funeral costs and a memorial or scholarship in Madelyn's name.

To know her, was to love her. Her cheeky smile on the court and her laughter was infectious. Our world lost a very special girl on January 27th... heaven gained an angel... but our hearts were not ready.
