Remembering Dave Moore

The Huntington's Disease Charity Walk is a fundraiser designed to benefit Kyle Moore (a member of Delta Upsilon) and his family. Very recently, Kyle lost his father due to Huntington's Disease. This disease is a genetic disorder that effects the nervous system. Essentially, the neurons in the brain waste away and cause a gradual decline in muscular coordination and strength. Kyle and his family have been devastated by their loss, but due to the nature of this disease, there is more cause for concern. A child who's parent has Huntington's Disease has a 1 in 2 chance of having inherited the disease himself. This means that Kyle and his siblings each have a 50% of having Huntington's disease and may likely suffer the same fate as their father: passing away at an early age. There is no cure or prevention for Huntington's Disease. The best thing doctors can do is treat the symptoms of the neural degeneration. In honor of Kyle's father, we have decided to host a charity walk who's proceeds will benefit the Huntington's Disease Society of America, an organization that is devoted to researching this disease and others like it in order to find a cure or other means of treatment. By supporting this organization, we hope scientists will find a cure that will help prevent families across the world from suffering as Kyle Moore's did.
