Lub Dub - Sammy's Heart and Kidney Transplant

Hi! My name is Sam and about 18 years ago I met Sammy Scholl. Over the last 18 years I have had the privilege of getting to know Sammy, live with Sammy, and become family with Sammy. Her story is one that is hard to wrap up in words. Sammy was born with hypo-plastic left heart syndrome and received her first life saving heart transplant at just 3 days old. As she grew up she began competing in gymnastics, developing a hilarious personality, and generally enjoying all the great things life had to offer. This came to a halt at age 9 when she developed heart failure and received a second transplant. As Sammy recovered she quickly got back to all things she loved, she graduated high school in 2010 and began college! Everyone who meets her instantly knows she is special. She has the ability to make you smile just as big as she does. The summer of 2012 Sammy was listed for her 3rd heart transplant, which she miraculously received in December of that year. This surgery and recovery came with a large set of challenges. Sammy came out of surgery on kidney dialysis and was listed for a kidney transplant which she received in 2013. Due to complications she had to work extremely hard to get back to school, work, and day to day life! Yet, she did! She went back to college and graduated in 2015 and received her RN in 2020. Since then she has worked as a NICU nurse giving back to those most in need. Supporting families during some of the scariest moments of their lives, as so many healthcare workers have done for her. She got engaged in 2020 to Jeffery Quail and they purchased their first home in 2022.

During the winter of 2023 Sammy got the unbelievable news that her heart and kidney were beginning to fail and would be listed again for her 4th heart transplant and 2nd kidney transplant. It is not lost on her and her family the dynamic feelings involved in hope of transplant. The journey to transplant and recovery will come with challenges of medical bills, leave from work, and upkeep of their home, animals, and land. All donations will go to Sammy to support her in these challenges.
