LRFP - The Lewis Family Recovery Project

Don protégé
Danielle Lewis and her family have been huge contributors to our local community for quite some time. I guess that's what you do when all of your careers all focus around Public Service: Danielle a former nurse at U of M, Aron, a firefighter in Waterford, and Travis, a police officer in Riverview. Let's not forget those three babes: Dominic, Gianna, and Issy. Danielle loves those babes so much she volunteered for years being the Mother Vice President on their school PTA Executive Board. Giving up endless hours of her day to make every students' experience, a positive, fun, and welcoming experience. You see, Danielle, Aron, and Travis are always there, for anyone and for any reason. Did you know that last year during the pandemic, every week, they picked up the free meals and delivered them to multiple families in need. Families that they met just by chance? Did you know that Danielle ordered ubers for a young mom, who was in a terrible spot, to get to work for weeks straight or that she took it upon herself to collect items the mom and children needed? We could go on and on. The real point is they do this for nothing in return, other than just waking up every morning and putting good out into this world. Something the world needs a lot more of.

October 2021 came in with so many items on their agenda. Taking Papa to Cleveland to hopefully get him on the list for a lung transplant and taking their yearly trip up to Mackinaw. A trip they take every year, to celebrate 1 more year that Danielle is cancer free. This year was going to be the biggest of them all. She is passed the 5 year cancer free mark - in the eyes of her doctors she is completely cured from her cancer. Unfortunately, the universe had alternate plans for them. On October 3rd, Danielle loaded up her Mom and Dad and headed to the Cleveland Clinic for testing. Testing that could determine whether or not he was a candidate for a lung transplant. You see, her dad was suffering from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a condition that has no real treatment. She left her beautiful babies back home with the boys, and on October 4th came the first punch. Her home caught on fire. What? Can you believe that? The kitchen was completely destroyed with extensive smoke damage throughout the house which has put the family in a hotel until further. So this was Monday, on Tuesday Papa's oxygen saturation level dropped below 35% and he was rushed back to the hospital. The blows kept coming, Papa was no longer a candidate for a lung transplant. Can you even imagine having one of these two things happen to you?

Here they are, no home to go to, and a terminally sick Papa. Papa is being placed on comfort care at the Cleveland Clinic, and doctors are not hopeful that he will be returning to Michigan to spend out the rest of his days. Aron, Travis and the kids in Michigan, and Danielle and her parents in Ohio.

Now is our time, now is your time, now is the time we can give back to the family that has given so much to us, our community, and even to complete strangers. Due to supply chain issues, there is no timeline on the Lewis home repairs, there's no end date in sight of life in a hotel. Please give whatever you can. Please share if you can.
