FIP Medical Bills for Sasha (Herman)

Donation protected
My husband, Razmig, and I adopted Sasha (previously named Herman) in February of this year from the rescue Here Have a Kitten. He was our baby boy, the light of our lives, the final puzzle piece that completed our family. Then, on Sunday, we suddenly and tragically lost him to FIP. We spent all of our savings on emergency care hoping for a miracle that never came. We had saved up for a planned move, which is no longer possible without your help.

This is our story.

Sasha was a silly, affectionate, outgoing, center of attention, curious, playful, energetic, PERFECT kitten who loved to give us kisses and make biscuits. He was the first in line to eat, the first in line for cuddles, and the first to meet me in the morning when my alarm went off. He was one in a billion.

Last week we slowly started to see his personality fade, and he became lethargic and just unlike himself. His belly looked a little too round, and his appetite decreased. Seeing these changes told me pretty quickly that something was wrong, and I got him into a vet ASAP.

Our worst fears were confirmed on Thursday, May 8, 2025, when he was diagnosed with wet FIP. We immediately hospitalized him, ran tests, and started him on FIP medicine we got from Devin (it’s called GS441524, a new drug that is so important for everyone to know about). His condition improved dramatically. He was feeling so much better that we were able to take him home on Friday.

Tragically, he took a sudden turn for the worse on Saturday night. We rushed him back to the emergency vet, but his little body had already entered stages of sepsis and shock. He had severe jaundice, severe dehydration, and they couldn’t even get his blood pressure up enough to take blood. The vet gently informed us that he was just too far gone. He was so weak his eyes could barely stay open. He was so tired.

We knew we had to let him go. Shattered, on May 11, 2025 at 6pm we said goodbye to our sweet boy. We sat together sobbing on the hospital floor and cradled him in our arms. He was just 9 months old. There are no words for the anguish we were, and still are, and will continue, to go through. The days feel empty and hollow, and the grief is overwhelming.

The costs of his hospitalization and treatments were astronomical, but he was our baby and we would’ve done everything and paid anything to save him. So we did. We spent our entire savings, including the money we needed to move in the next few weeks as we had planned. Unfortunately, there was not enough money in the world to save him. We are devastated.

Your donation of any amount to help cover his medical bills would mean the world to us. We would be able to move into our new home like we had planned. This apartment feels so empty and lonely without him, having to cancel our move to remain here was really hard. We’ve been sleeping on the couch because we can’t bear the thought of sleeping in bed without him. But with your help we would be able to move, and continue our healing journey.

We are so grateful for your generosity in getting us through this impossible time. Thank you for loving him and loving us. Our pets are our family, and he was so greatly wanted and fiercely loved.
