Love for Kaysan

"Kaysan is a bright, rambunctious boy who loves everything from My Little Pony to Ninja Turtles & everything between. His favorite pasttimes are playing Call of Duty with his dad, cuddling with his mommy, watching Nightmare Before Christmas or Curious George, & making his baby brother laugh. He is known lovingly as Crazy Kay by those close to him. He lives up to that name daily.
On February 9th, Kaysan went in to see his doctor because he had some bruises on his legs. That rainy night, our whole world was flipped upside down. We rushed 45 min away to the closest children's oncology clinic to meet with a specialist.
He was immediately given a blood transfusion & blood platelets along with multiple blood draws & IV fluids. He is only 3 years old & he didn't even cry when they put his iv in. He just watched & said "ouch" once. That shows you just how strong this kid is.
After much testing & the longest hours of our lives we now know that he has AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). Though we were fortunate to catch it early, his case is more rare among his age group, along with certain genetic mutations putting him in a high risk category.
After this aggressive chemo treatment, that is still in clinical trial, Kaysan will need a stem cell transplant. We will be staying at the hospital for the better part of the next 6 months minimum, followed by a longer period of constant visits to the clinic & medication to maintain the remission we are praying for.
As it is all still new, we are taking it day by day & praying for any good news. It's already been a rough road, but somehow he continues to show us what bravery really means. His smile radiates through the room & his laugh is contagious.
Somehow he has become the superhero that he admires, battling this sickness to the end. He will fight & he will win. He will come out stronger than ever & share his story with other kids struggling to find that strength."
