Love fEAST 2026: Communal Food as Protest, Care as Practice, Belonging as Radical
Short summary
Love fEAST is a free communal dinner and cultural festival at crazinisT artisT studiO (TTO) / pIAR in Kumasi, Ghana, bringing together artists, queer families, and local communities through food, music, performance, and radical care. We are raising €20,000 to host Love fEAST on 31 January 2026 and to secure logistics by 10 January 2026.
Our'istory
For Love fEAST 2026, I am calling on all friends, families, radical lovers, and sympathisers to support us and donate to our fundraiser.
My name is Va-Bene Elikem Fiatsi, also known as crazinisT artisT. I work as a multidisciplinary artivist, curator, artvangelist, and mentor across several regions of the world. Beyond my performances and artistic interventions that confront queer violence, anti-Blackness, and trans erasure, I also organise community-based resistance. This work is intentional. It exists to disrupt colonial narratives and undo the missionary misrepresentation of black queer lives on the continent.
One of our biggest manifestations and affirmations is Love fEAST, inspired by long-held Ghanaian traditions of multigenerational gathering around the table to eat, share stories, and celebrate life with diversity, care, empathy and radical belonging, even within economic, social, and political crisis.
Love fEAST is an annual communal dinner and cultural festival, launched in 2020 as an act of resistance to the threats and harassment targeting pIAR, a trans-led artistic residency, and other queer spaces across the nation. It seeks to reclaim and promote true Ghanaian values of hospitality, care, kindness, community networks, healthy human relations, and the complexity of our diversity. It marks the beginning of every new year at crazinisT artisT studiO and pIAR, as a symbol of rebirth, solidarity, and untamed love.
Since 2020, Love fEAST has grown from 150 participants in its first year to over 500 participants in 2025.
Why we need your support
For years, pIAR and the crazinisT artisT studiO have been operating without cultural funding. We have kept the doors open through sacrifice, collective care, and my personal artist income. The only major cultural support we have received was the ITF funding, which largely supported our Radicalising the Art workshop in January 2025, and not the ongoing operations of our space or our year-round programs.
At the same time, I also sustain multiple community initiatives, including:
- perfocraZe International Artist Residency (pIAR), hosting around 35 local and international artists per year, and approximately 250 artists in total since 2019
- TTO Mentorship and Residency Scholarship, offered specifically to trans community members
- The Va-Bene Scholarship and Mentorship Residency A broad, supporting emerging Ghanaian artists to travel abroad for two months of cultural exchange, artistic exploration, and networking
We are not asking for luxury. We are asking for solidarity to keep the table and doors open, and to build safety, dignity, and joy for our communities.
