Support Mikayla & family

Hi everyone! A very close friend of ours, Mikayla, and her brother Carson are going through an extremely difficult time. Their mom, Kris, suffered a serious brain injury on June 28th, 2025 landing her in the ICU after being med-flighted for emergency brain surgery. Please take a moment to read Mikayla’s post about the situation below.

“I have received several messages over the past few days and I apologize that I haven’t been able to reply to everybody. I appreciate the kind words and the thoughts and prayers we have received up to this point.

My mom has been experiencing migraines almost daily over the past month and a half. It was discovered about a month ago that she had an AVM in her brain. If you google AVM, many people live with this their entire life and never know. The likelihood of it rupturing is quite low. While surgeons at Rochester Mayo were planning to treat this, they did not believe this was the cause of her migraines or that it was an urgent matter. We now know that they were terribly wrong.

Friday night my mom texted me that she was dealing with yet another migraine. Saturday morning my mom was found unresponsive and was medflighted to La Crosse where they discovered her brain bleed and need for immediate surgery. She was flown to UW Health in Madison for surgery. This was an extensive surgery to remove the pressure of the bleed from her brain. It was confirmed that this was the AVM bursting. She is currently in the ICU and we expect that there will be some swelling over the coming days. We have been told that it’s hard to assess the extent of the injury to her brain until the swelling goes down.

She will be in the hospital for several weeks at minimum as (we hope and pray) she continues to make progress and heal. Her family will be here with her as much as we possibly can.

I know that she is terrified but that she is a fighter and wants nothing more than to be here with her family. I still need my mom. My little brother still needs his mom. I can’t fathom telling my babies that their nana isn’t here with them anymore. Please pray for her and for our family during this incredibly difficult time.”

We are hopeful to raise some money to help ease the burden of travel, hotels, meals, etc. on top of all the medical expenses Mikayla, Carson and their family will endure over the next several months. We don’t want her and her family to stress about finances during this extremely challenging time.
