Lorrie's Fight With Stomach Cancer
Don protégé
Mabe you have had the honor to meet my mother, Lorrie, whether it be on the farm fields of Rushmore Farm in Somers CT, or at GIGIs farm stand in Enfield, CT, or on her endless produce runs all across the state to countless local farms.
Maybe you've had the privilege to talk with her, laugh and feel her love. She has founded "Serve it Forward", gods mission to grow extra rows of produce on her farm to provide fresh produce to families in Enfield. Her generosity has grown community connections with many during her times working with the youth at summer "Lunch Bunch" and the Enfield Food Shelf. Here, she has provided field trips for youth to come experience and learn farming. Lorries teaching spread through the community because of her volunteer work and her relationship with the Enfield Food Shelf. Due to her multiple charitable volunteer work experiences, she helped grow and provide food for many, including the local resource center and the homeless. She has loved helping, interacting with, and making friends, with so many during her community service experiences.
Maybe you've shaken hands or received a hug from Lorrie at Cornerstone Church in East Long Meadow, MA. Maybe you're even lucky enough to own one of her beautiful works of folk art or original sculptures.
Or maybe, you're blessed to know one of her 6 children, 2 of which are seniors at Somers High School.
Regardless of how we know Lorrie, one thing is always certain. She is selfless, kind hearted, and the most hard working woman of farming and faith I will ever know.
And she needs our help right now.
My mother was diagnosed with Stomach cancer in February 2022. It was surely not expected, and hit her hard, causing her to become severely ill. She is currently struggling through aggressive treatments, rounds of chemotherapy and infusions that are incapacitating. She has had extensive illness and pain during the past months of chemotherapy, and additional hospital stays due to complications of the chemo. She has lost her hair. She knows this is how treatment will go for her. However, she still finds a way to give back and spread God's word, giving the last bits of energy to pay forward love and light praying to other cancer patients and anyone willing to talk and listen.
Lorrie will be undergoing stomach surgery in one month to remove her whole stomach. She still will need to undergo repeated chemotherapy treatments. The fight after the surgery is far from over.
We are praying for a miracle, as this type of cancer has a high chance for recurrance.
While she struggles through her first rounds of chemo, she fears the failure of her farm stand. The loss of ability to provide for families in multiple communities that she has been feeding for the past 15 years is horrific to her.
With this gofundme, proceeds will help care for my 2 youngest brothers while they are still in school. These donations will pay for expenses related to current and future hospitalizations, surgeries, and treatments for my mother. These funds will help provide necessary items for Lorrie, to help care for her during this time of severe illness. They will lastly help to relieve the financial burden of her farm stand and other bills while she fights this horrific disease.
Please consider contributing in any amount to this, and share it far and wide. My mother is the strongest and most selfless woman I will ever know and wouldn't even know what to say about this kindness and compassion towards her. My siblings, myself and our family are eternally grateful for you ❤️
