Support Lochlan O'leary's Fight Against Osteosarcoma

We are reaching out to share the challenging journey of Jen & Rory O’Leary’s son Lochlan, a courageous 10-year-old boy who has been facing an incredibly tough battle.

In January 2024 Lochlan began experiencing severe pain, which led to a series of medical tests and consultations at SickKids Hospital. Upon admission it was discovered that Lochlan had a mass in his sacrum which was later diagnosed as Osteosarcoma (the same cancer as Terry Fox). Lochlan underwent two major surgeries over two days, lasting over 33 hours to remove his cancer. In efforts to further eradicate the cancer Lochlan has been undergoing a gruelling 8-month chemotherapy regimen to ensure that any remaining cancer cells are killed. Thankfully this part of his journey will wrap up in the coming months, but his battle is a long one. The surgeons were able to remove the mass and ultimately save his life, and although the surgeries were successful, Lochlan sustained significant physical and permanent damage and disability due to the location of the tumour which was found in the intricate nerve network in his sacral spine. Once chemotherapy is complete Lochlan will begin an intense rehabilitation journey with the hopes of being able to one day walk again.

Now that Lochlan is finally back home, the family is working hard to adapt their house to accommodate his needs. The family faces the ongoing challenge of making their home accessible for their son, which includes installation of ramps, acquiring specialized rehabilitation equipment, vehicles, and installing an elevator to ensure he can move around freely and comfortably in his home. These accommodations will cost in excess of $150,000

Lochlan’s bravery through these trials has been nothing short of inspiring and we know many of you have reached out to the family to offer help and support. His future mobility is still unknown, and these crucial additions will greatly improve Lochlan’s quality of life and help him continue his rehabilitation journey with greater independence and comfort.
