Photography and Haiti
I am a wife, parent, small business owner and artist and often find myself easily caught up in my own world, losing sight of what is truly important in life and so have been looking for personal and professional inspiration. Shortly after I began my quest, I was presented with an opportunity to join non-profit, Poverty Resolutions, on one of their trips to Haiti in an effort to aide their mission and to begin work on a personal photography project in Haiti.
I will be working with Poverty Resolutions to help build a Transition Center for young men who are transitioning from an orphanage into the workplace, where a typical worker can expect to make only $2.75 a day. Because jobs are so scarce (approximately 70% do not have regular jobs), those who do have jobs are afraid to speak out against unfair labor practices.1

I expect that I will be photographing the people of Haiti, the mission and if possible, creating an interactive photography experience during which young people in transition can learn valuable business skills and life lessons.
In addition to the cost of the trip and photo supplies such as extra batteries and memory cards, I am hoping to invest in several Fujifilm Instax Instant Film Cameras, the accompanying film and batteries as tools available for use during these workshops.
I will be in Haiti November 8th to the 15th and invite you to join me. As a thank you for your support, you will be recognized in any publications, shows or the like that result from this body of work.
