Our beloved sister/artist/activist/spiritual being Reshawn Goods AKA “Bush mama” needs our immediate support. In her words: “Two years ago the state decided that my son is no longer disabled, mind you he still has the syndrome he was born with, he still has corrective surgeries to have and I’m still giving/ handling all of his home care, home schooling and managing his medical arrangements. I have fought like hell during these past two years to keep his SSI benefits and demanded a day in court to fight for him. We were cheated out of due process, didn't get our day in court. Not only did his benefits stop on the 1st of January without a notice but the state also wants me to pay back every dime he was given in the last two years.”

This situation has caused a sudden and extreme financial and emotional hardship, one that could threaten her being able to keep her housing in a ruthless Oakland housing crisis. She needs our financial and moral support to navigate the next two months (February-March) to cover her rent and take time off from work while she advocates for her beautiful son/sun. She also needs a lawyer who would be willing to work pro bono and who has experience with fighting the state over SSI benefits. She also needs someone who is willing to go with her to appointments while she navigates this situation. We need to step up as a community for a sister/mother who has been making powerful art, doing amazing spiritual work, and is an important part of our Oakland community.
