Dear friends and family,
Many of you have been on this grueling journey with Mert, Grace and their children Harrison and Alli, and have heard about what our dear friend has had to go through. At this time Mert really needs our help to get back on his feet, literally and figuratively!
August 8th was 4 months, yes 4 months ago, that Mert was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was put on a ventilator. After several setbacks including a stroke , Mert was weaned off the ventilator and by July 20th doctors were able to cap his tracheotomy and he began breathing independently.
He was moved to rehab where they nicknamed him “Miraculous Mert”. While the doctors are amazed at his recovery, the road will be long and difficult. Therefore now is the right time for us to show our love and support for a man who has spent his whole career making us laugh. From his work in the Second City, to SCTV, to writing for Cheers, Mert's humor uplifts and improves the lives of those who are lucky enough to know him.
With the consent of Mert and his family, I have created this GoFundMe page to help them deal with the costs that will come from Mert's rehabilitation and other medical needs.
