To Lesvos, With Love

My name is Emma Newbery. I am 22 years old and grew up in Montauk, NY. I recently graduated from SUNY Purchase with a BA in film and media studies. Since graduating I have constantly been mulling over what to do with my life and fretting over not having any real direction, that is, until I was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime. A friend of mine approached me and asked if I wanted to go volunteer in Lesvos, Greece to help the refugee crisis going on there. I was there for ten days and am planning on returning for a longer period of time. I saw devastation and beauty. The people I helped were nothing more than grateful and appreciative to be alive. I met the most amazing people who were dedicating time to also volunteer. But most of all my heart was ripped open and I found a purpose. I want to be there for people and continue to do aid work. The work in Lesvos is far from over, and these people need our help. The world has shifted into a darker place and as  human beings we should be around to help out our fellow humans and make our planet a better place. I would be forever indebited to those who are willing to help the refugees by donating to this site. This money will be used to fund food, burials, ocean rescue, shelter, and transportation. As the weather changes and gets colder people's lives are even more at stake. Please take some time to help inspire others to volunteer and to help raise money for this cause.
