I married someone I believed was loving and safe, but over time, the relationship became abusive. After 10 years of marriage, I am now fighting not only to heal from that abuse, but to protect myself from continued abuse through the legal system.

The trauma from years of emotional abuse left me battling severe depression and anxiety. For nearly three years, I have been unable to work and currently have a pending disability claim. At my lowest point, I couldn’t even leave my home or drive for over a year.

In January 2025, I finally found the strength to ask my husband to leave so I could begin healing and reclaim some peace in my life. Instead of supporting that process, he moved in with a new girlfriend and abruptly cut off all financial support and communication, leaving me without income and unable to cover even the most basic living expenses.

Since then, I have been struggling to survive — trying to keep food on the table, phone and internet on, and care for myself and my elderly dog while navigating overwhelming emotional and financial hardship.

Now, I am facing an even more frightening situation. My former partner has filed for divorce and also filed a protective order against me despite me having done nothing wrong. It feels like the legal system is being used as another tool to intimidate, isolate, and financially exhaust me.

There is now a ticking clock. I urgently need legal representation to defend myself, respond to the divorce proceedings, and protect my future. The attorney retainer alone is $3,000 — an amount that feels impossible for me to come up with while unable to work and already struggling to survive.

The funds raised will go directly toward:

• Retaining an attorney for my divorce and legal defense

• Basic living expenses and overdue bills

• Food, utilities, and daily necessities
