A handicapped van for Nicholas

I am a home health nurse writing for the father of the child I take care of. He's not good with typing or computers. That being said, his name is Chris Brazil, his now 14 year old son Nicky is ventilator dependent since the age of 4. He had a catastrophic accident with a TV at the age of 21/2 and sustained severe brain damage. He cannot move, and he cannot speak. He requires 24 hour care. All his nurses love him and his dad tries very hard to make sure his life is as comfortable as possible. He transports Nicholas in an OLD 1996 Dodge Caravan which sometimes runs and sometimes doesn't. It is NOT handicapped accessible by any means. Chris has to hook a portable ramp and push a heavy wheelchair laden down with an extra battery and ventilator up the ramp then whichever nurse is with him must strap the wheelchair in so it is secure. Numerous times we have had to cancel Doctor appointments because the van is not running. Occasionally the van has broken down on the road, which is extremely dangerous since Nicky’s ventilator is running off a 12 volt car battery. Many of Nicholas's doctors won't refill medication unless he has been seen, so it is imperative that the van be trustworthy. Chris himself is disabled from back surgery with bolts and screws and plates holding his spine together. It has become increasingly difficult for him to push the heavy wheelchair up the ramp. Recently Nicholas got a refurbished wheelchair which makes the wheelchair itself without Nicholas in it even heavier. If we could get a newer van that is already handicapped accessible or a brand new van it would make taking Nicholas to his appointments so much easier.
