I have created this go fund me campaign for my sister LaRosa "Bookie" Lawson who was diagnosed with MS Multiple Sclerosis about two years ago. MS is a progressive, immune-mediated disorder. That means the system designed to keep your body healthy mistakenly attacks parts of your body that are vital to everyday function. The protective coverings of nerve cells are damaged, which leads to diminished function in the brain and spinal cord.
My sister has been dealing with the unpredictable symptoms of MS, and every day she struggles with the many symptoms that this debilitating disease throws at her and her family. She struggles daily with extreme fatigue, intense and debilitating numbness and tingling in her legs, arms, and hands. Her back, neck, and shoulder pain limits her mobility. In addition to that, she has the looming fear of developing paralysis, vision loss, and diminished brain function.
Current medical status: MS is monitored by tracking the number and locations of "Lesions" that are attacking your brain, brain stem, and spine. Currently, LaRosa has approximately 15 - 30 lesions on her brain and brain stem. There is one lesion on her upper spine.
Brain and Brain Stem Lesion: are being treated by infusion treatment via IV twice a year. This treatment plan does not destroy or prevent new lesions but they can possibly slow the MS deterioration process down.
Infusion Treatment Cost: Covered under grants, charity, and financial assistance.
Spine Lesion: has to be removed by surgery due to its location. It is located between her 3 and 4 vertebrae on the spine. It is putting extreme pressure on her spine and will lead to paralysis on her right side and the loss of bowel control. Treatment requirement is surgery and overnight stay in a hospital located in Atlanta Ga.
Surgery Fee: $3000.00 there are no grants, charity, or financial assistance available for this cost. This is the surgeon fee and it has to be paid directly to his office before the surgery date.

Due to her MS diagnosis, she had to resign from her job at Walmart and her family is now living on limited income which does not even cover all of their monthly expenses, so $3,000 is like 30,000 to them it is just not obtainable. Any donations to this account would ensure my sister receives the doctor recommended treatment she desperately needs in order to remain mobile for as long as she can be. Because if she does not have this surgery the doctor said: "she will become partially paralyzed on her right side".
I believe between family, friends, church, and community we can achieve this goal of $3,000 and even increase that amount beyond this immediate crisis for the family. Let's create some sort of financial relief for them as they struggle against the destruction this disease can cause on a family emotionally, mentally, spiritually, financially, and physically.
