LAPD Officer Mike Tomelloso and Wife Fight Cancer

Donation protected
Veteran Marine and current Los Angeles Police Officer Michael (Mike) Tomelloso of Central Traffic Division and his wife Laura are battling stage 4 cancer at the same time. They have two children, Mike Jr. (age 14) and Matthew (age 11). Mike and Laura have a long and challenging road ahead of them and are struggling to reduce the impact on their children while they fight this disease.

Laura, a full-time mother, was diagnosed with aggressive colon cancer in February 2022. While caring for Laura, Mike was diagnosed with throat cancer in June 2022. Mike and Laura’s ongoing medical treatments, surgeries, hospitalizations and weight loss have made simple tasks exhausting and, at times, impossible. They do not have family nearby and have been relying on friends, neighbors and church members for assistance with everyday tasks and transportation to medical appointments.

Their oldest son, Mike Jr., plays high school football. Friends and coaches ensured Mike Jr. had transportation to and from practice and football games. Matthew is home-schooled due to special needs and was working with horses as a form of therapy. Due to Mike and Laura’s health, they could only attend one of Mike Jr.’s football games, and Matthew could no longer attend horse therapy. Matthew also needs facial surgery to repair damage and scarring after being mauled by a neighbor’s dog. Sadly, with two seriously ill parents, Matthew’s surgeries are postponed.

Due to his illness, Mike has been off work and is now on the state income rate, which is just a portion of his typical salary. With neither Mike nor Laura working, they are depleting their savings to maintain health insurance and pay bills. They will each be undergoing treatments and hospitalizations for the next several months and will be working toward recovery through much of 2023. First and foremost, the family is asking for prayer as they continue this difficult journey and for the many decisions that need to be made going forward.

Please help the Tomelloso family! No amount is too little. There are several ways to donate:
