Lambchop Needs Emergency Surgery - Please Help!
FINAL UPDATE: Lammy is back with me and recovering from a successful surgery. Thank you so much to everyone for you help and support. THIS LAMB IS GONNA BE OKAY.
❤️
On the night of my thirtieth birthday, a tiny scared little stray dog ran up to me on the side of the road and changed my life forever.
When I first held his tiny little body in my arms and felt his little lamby fleece, I fell in love.
"You can call him Lambchop," my roommate said. "Do you like that, Lambchop?" And he smiled and nestled into my lap and we all knew he was home.
Two days ago, I woke up and Lammy came running up to me for cuddles. I picked him up, and he screamed in pain. Clearly, something was hurting him. Panicked, I carried him outside, but he just lay down on the ground and looked at me.
I was terrified. I took him to the vet. They said it was a pinched nerve and gave him some painkillers.
Yesterday, his favorite auntie Hayley came over in the morning and he struggled over to her to say hello. His front legs collapsed and he fell.
That was the last use he had of his front two paws. I rushed him back to the vet. They sent me to VCA ASEC for a surgical evaluation.
Lambchop has Intervertebral Disc Disease. A slipped disc in his vertebra is rubbing against his spinal column, and if we don't operate soon he could become fully paralyzed. The operation will alleviate the pressure and let him walk and be his sweet bouncy self again.
This little guy is the only important thing in the world to me. I can't afford this surgery, but I can't let this happen to him. I love this lamb with all of my stupid heart.
Please help us.
UPDATE: I have raised the goal by $1000 because the MRI we took yesterday was $1100 more than the CT scan they budgeted me for, and the specialist surgery today may mean some extra costs.
Essentially, they did the MRI to rule out meningitis, which they thought after observation might be a possibility. What they found was that the disc had slipped so far to the right that the surgery has to be done from a different angle than the way it's usually performed.
UPDATE 2:
LAMBCHOP IS RECOVERING FROM A SUCCESSFUL SURGERY!!!!!
I was able to put down a partial deposit, and the remainder will be due Saturday when I pick him up.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We've come a long way in just two days! I don't even really have words for this. Just. Thank you. Lammy thanks you too.
❤️❤️
UPDATE 3:
The hospital has decided to hold Lammy on IV pain meds until Monday. Payment will be due then. He's already up and moving around, but they're concerned that he is actually moving too much for his pain level. He's probably just really excited to be walking again, I get it buddy!!
I trust these vets, so I know when I pick him up on Monday they will be confident that he's comfortable on oral meds and ready to come home.
It's hard to wait but I'm glad they're taking good care of my little boy! I promise to keep updating.
Thank you so much again to everyone. I hope to share a picture of us safely home together very soon.
