Laguna Bch Destination Imagination

Students from Thurston Middle School and Laguna Beach High School brought home two 2nd place and one 3rd place title from the statewide California Destination Imagination tournament.  They will be going to Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee in May where they will represent Laguna Beach. The teams are seeking community support for registration, travel and costs to ship their props.
The Brilliant Boom Bam Bananas from Thurston Middle School placed 2nd place in the Engineering Category.  The team was led by Tanya Hovanesian with 8th graders Evan Henry, Joseph Hovanesian, Jared Moy and Miles Riehle. 
The Magnificent Sevens placed 2nd in the Scientific Category led by Kevin Mullican and Cameron Flanagan and 7th graders Kai Arellano, Jeff Herkins, Sherwin Riahi, Eliott Schaffer and Christian Yates.
The Laguna Code Breakers placed 3rd in the High School Scientific Category led by Team Manager Lisa Herkins and 9th graders Kenneth Chu, Isabel Duong, Andrew Duong, and Kyle Herkins
Destination Imagination promotes creativity, teamwork and ingenuity through team competition in several categories, from engineering to fine art and community service. Elementary, middle, and high school students participate in 15 countries and all 50 states.
