Katy will likely lynch me for this, but I've never been one to do as I'm told!!
On Saturday morning, Eastmoors long standing mascot and chief escort horse, Sir Harold, suddenly collapsed in his field. Within minutes he was suffering long fitting episodes and was deteriorating every minute that passed by. He was clearly in unimaginable pain and was giving up fighting. Our wonderful vet arrived very quickly and after examination and a few attempts to get him up where he immediately collapsed again, the conversation was had to put him to sleep. It was suspected that he was suffering a cardiac episode and had fractured his elbow during his initial fall. Katy was by his side comforting him and having to make that awful decision in a split second. She opted to X Ray the elbow and have an ECG done to confirm the potential heart attack before that final decision would come. The entire thing was heartbreaking and traumatic to watch. With one last attempt, a LOT of people helping and a cocktail of drugs, we managed to get him up and into his feet, where he remained stood up!!! He was whisked off to Endells horse hospital for every test and xray under the sun. He is stable and comfortable and by all accounts doing well! We do not have any answers yet but all his results and scans will all be reviewed by a specialist tomorrow, we have absolutely everything crossed that whatever they find can be managed and he can enjoy a long and happy retirement here. It's unlikely he'll be ridden again due to the nature of his sudden collapse. Due to Harry's age, his insurance now only covers external wounds, knowing this did not change Katys decision to send him to hospital and try to save his life. She did not hesitate in doing the best for her bestest boy. He will likely be at the vets for several more days and his bill is already in the thousands, but he is worth every penny. Both Harry and Katy are so important to what we do at Eastmoors and I know so many of you will want to help them both and support his long recovery. So I wanted to set this up to just help take a little bit of pressure off her during this awful time. Katy does so much for me everyday and I know all our clients adore her too. So please help Harry get well soon and on his way to coming home ❤️ Tayah xx
