As many of you know, Becca and I have dedicated 3 months of our trip to work with the Kullu Project, an NGO located in the Kullu Valley Region of Himachal Pradesh, India. We have been tasked with revitalizing the project after a several year lull without volunteers. The Kullu Project has previously been a valuable resource to disadvantaged children in the area by providing support to orphanages and specialized schools for children in need.At the moment we are specifically working with two orphanages for boys, ages 5-16. Both orphanages sit at the foothills of the incredible Indian Himalayas. However, regardless of their close proximity to this mountain paradise, they rarely have the chance to leave the orphanage (aside from their commute to and from school), never mind traveling beyond the village they live in. This is not due to a lack of enthusiasm from the management of either homes; the reality is the funds for this kind of trip are simply not available.
It is our hope that we can raise enough money to coordinate a joint camping trip for the two orphanages. This would be a multi-day trip up into the incredible mountain region surrounding the valley. Ankit Sood, one of the founders of the Kullu Project, works closely with the local National Parks and is able to help us to organize such a trip. The money we are hoping to raise is to provide camping gear, equipment, necessary additional staff, food, and transportation integral to the success of this adventure. This would be a much needed break from their daily routines, an opportunity for these kids to explore and experience the amazing nature which surrounds them, and a chance to make some new friends outside of the orphanage where they live. These are outgoing, creative, energetic, good-natured, and bright eyed individuals, who would truly benefit from this camping trip.
Any and all help, will be truly appreciated, and go towards giving these children a weekend they deserve!
