We are Fairy Knowe Backpackers and we are helping the Kula Malaika Foundation raise funds to help with their many ongoing projects.

Kula Malaika currently cares for approximately 30 children in its Crèche and Grade R programs, as well as over 20 children in after-school care. Our five staff members ensure that the children learn through play and receive nutritious meals throughout the day. The after-school children also enjoy engaging in woodwork and cooking and baking activities at our skills training facilities on the farm.

The life skills training center includes learning across various work areas, such as wood-work, glass-work, hospitality, craft workshop, sales in the craftshop, permaculture, early childhood development, and animal husbandry. Qualified trainers and experienced volunteers provide essential skill development, while supervision and counselling sessions help participants address past traumas and foster moral and ethical values. The natural farm environment supports the development of essential coping skills for future growth.

The funds will be collected in a bank account in the Netherlands belonging to a Dutch colleague/family member of ours, who is involved with both Fairy Knowe Backpackers and Kula Malaika. All proceedings will then go towards the skills center as well as another project of Kula Malaika’s - The Kleinkrantz Childcare and Youth Development Center, which has been operating since 2007, providing care for over 60 children through its Crèche, Grade R, and after-school programs, supported by a dedicated staff of 8. In addition to daily care, the center offers various youth development initiatives, including swimming lessons, Friday evening activities, soccer, and netball.

Since its establishment, the center has contributed to improvements in the children’s academic performance and their social and moral behavior.
