Koss Family Transplant Help
Donation protected
John was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in July of 2016. AML is an aggressive type of blood/bone marrow cancer. After 9 months of chemo, he enjoyed a complete remission until he relapsed in the beginning of 2018. The only chance for a cure is a stem cell transplant. He has a favorable type of AML and has a good prognosis for long term recovery.
The transplant will be at Froedtert in Milwaukee. John will be inpatient for intensive chemo followed by the transplant, which will take about a month. Then, an apartment in Milwaukee for an additional 2-3 months. Mandi will be his full-time caregiver and get him to appointments several times a week. Unfortunately, housing and other expenses are not covered by insurance.
John is the father of 5 children, 3 still dependent on him and Mandi. The kids will be cared for by relatives during and after the transplant.
After the stay in Milwaukee, John will be severely immunosuppressed. Because of the risk of infection, he needs to come home to an almost sterile environment. Froedtert suggests deep cleaning the house, including carpets. Also, the house needs a few modifications & repairs.
The family needs help with housing, transportation, medical supplies, and financial support for the kids & their caregivers. The goal amount would be a great start to secure the apartment and set their finances straight before heading to Froedtert. There's talk of a benefit in the future, will update when details are available.
When John was initially diagnosed, an outpouring of support allowed them to survive many months without income and focus on his treatment/recovery.
Thank you!
