Remembering Kohl: A Legacy of Love and Transformation

Kohl was more than just a dog; he was a beacon of hope for rescue dogs with behavioral challenges. With a unique calling, Kohl dedicated much of his life to training these dogs, helping them overcome their issues and become adoptable. He was an athlete, a companion, and a partner to Emily Richardson. Together, they transformed many unadoptable rescues into well-behaved, cherished family members.

A Lifelong Companion and Mentor

Kohl was not only a trainer but also a loving mentor to several litters of poodles. Many of these pups went on to become service dogs, making a profound difference in many peoples' lives. Kohl bonded with the puppies instantly, nurturing them, building their confidence, and assisting in their training.

The Spirit of a German Shepherd

Kohl was a handsome German Shepherd, embodying the best traits of his breed - focused, loyal, athletic, protective, intuitive, and incredibly intelligent. Tragically, Kohl was born with microvascular dysplasia and a genetic condition that caused his body to store copper, leading to long-term health issues. Despite being told that as a pup he might not live past five years, Kohl defied the odds and passed away just shy of his ninth birthday.

Kohl was deeply loved and cherished not only by Emily but also by the entire team at Above the Standard Dog Training, Strut Your Paws Grooming, and all the clients, family, and friends who had the pleasure of meeting him. His remarkable nature left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path.

Honoring Kohl's Legacy

Kohl's impact on the world was profound, despite his short life. To honor his legacy, a fundraiser has been initiated to save the lives of dogs at risk of euthanasia in high-kill shelters. Kohl helped countless rescue dogs transition from reactive and fearful into well-adjusted loving family members. In his memory, funds are being raised for The Rescue Express, a 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue based in Media, PA.

Establishing the Kohl Fund

Emily and Kohl's contributions have inspired the creation of The Kohl Fund at The Rescue Express. This fund aims to continue Kohl's mission of transforming the lives of rescue dogs, ensuring they have the opportunity to find loving homes. Through this initiative, Kohl's spirit and dedication will live on, helping many more dogs in need.
