Help Knieona Battle SJ Syndrome

Don protégé

This picture was taken just days before symptoms began.

Our family has had the honor of becoming friends with the Davis family.  I wanted to be able to share their story in hopes of reaching the hearts of people in our life.  Our paths crossed in our involvement in Lyman Pop Warner Football where our sons played on the same team for several years.
In late November their eldest daughter, Knieona, was prescribed an antibiotic (Bactrim) which caused a severe allergic reaction.  Her eyes and her mouth began to swell and at that point they took her to the emergency room.  From there she was transported to Florida South where they were told that she had developed Stephen's-Johnston Syndrome as a result of this medication.  She was admitted to the ICU with high fever, kidney complications, severe burns that were rapidly covering her whole body, and excruciating eye pain.   After being there for a week, she qualified to be sent to Shand's Medical Center in Gainesville because 80% of her body was now severely burned.
Knieona and her mom, Natalie remained at Shand's throughout the Christmas holidays.  There she had to be fed using feeding tubes because the burns were internal as well as external.  She underwent treatment for the burns and the eye/vision complications and was finally discharged after a month.

Here is a picture at the beginning stages of her diagnosis.

Since being back home, Knienoa is still under doctor's care for her eye complications, her burns and kidney issues.....all a result of Stephen's - Johnston Syndrome.
She is being referred to eye specialists out of town because her eyes are only continuing to get worse.  They fear that she could lose her sight.  This a common result of the syndrome.
Besides the agonizing stress of seeing their daughter go through so much suffering, Steve and Natalie are faced now with mounting bills......medical, travel, everyday living, special dietary needs for her, etc.......
Natalie has had to stop working to care continually for Knieona and Steve has taken on a second job to help support his family.  Even prior this tragedy, they were considered a "family in transtion" from homelessness.  Because of a house fire several years ago and losing everything, they have spent the last severals trying to keep their heads above water and their family together.  This is one of the many reasons we have such respect and love for this family.  Steve and Natalie are both amazing people who are doing all they can to help their daughter.  Knieona is covered under Medicade but that will only help with hospitalization.  The problem now is having to come up with the money needed for specialists.....eye, skin, and kidney and the travel expenses involved.  Their car is needing some repair when travel is recommended.
Funds are needed immediately.  In fact, it has been recommended that they travel to get her to a eye specialist this coming week.  She has appointments with a kidney specialist and her dermatologists, too, next week.
Our family has grown to love and care for the Davis family.  We feel that God has allowed our lives to intersect for His divine purposes.  We so desperately want to see this sweet family be able to give Knieona all that she needs to battle this awful condition.  There are two other children in the family, Keyon and Kerieona.  We had the privilege of caring for Keyon for the duration of the hospital stays.  What a great kid!!!
Please know that any amount given will be greatly appreciated!  Every little bit helps!
I am excited to see how God uses each of you to bless this sweet family.
