We are a group of people from around the world that help support education for impoverished schoolchildren in Jamaica. The school that we have elected to support is one of the poorest that provides education at the kindergarten/primary level - Mango Hall Basic School in Little London, Jamaica
We are raising money to get electric service established for the 50 kindergarten/primary schoolchildren that attend this one room school. Presently, this clapboard sided, metal roofed school has no way to protect the children from lightning strikes, provide refrigeration for children’s lunches, or air movement via fans to help keep the children cooler during the day.
The money raised will be used to purchase and install Lightning Arrestor Equipment to protect the building from the frequent and severe lightning strikes in Jamaica. This is a requirement to have electrical service in a building where children are present as well as to protect the children from the lightning. Once this is installed, the existing electrical service will be upgraded and fans purchased.
The quicker we reach our goal, the quicker we can get Lightning Arrestor Equipment installed and get the children protected from lightning strikes and get air flowing inside the building.
If you could stand in the middle of the schoolroom and see the faces of these beautiful children as we have, and watch as the teachers instruct them in the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic despite no running water or electricity, you would understand why we want to make this project become a reality.
Virtually nothing is more important to these children becoming productive members of Jamaican society than a good education. Your contributions to help get electricity for the school will go a long way towards making their education experience better and more rewarding.
