Kisk's Legacy: The Silver Comet Trail Cat Memorial Fund
Donation protected
I'm Larry Helferich, rescuer/patron/provider for Kisk, The Silver Comet Trail Cat. Kisk was a feral TNR cat who faithfully fulfilled his duty to help reduce the feral cat population in his neighborhood. Kisk loved to hang out on the trail, near Mile Marker 6, to receive some affection from those who chose to take a quick rest while hiking/riding on The Trail. I'm told he was pretty good at checking tire pressures too! Many of Kisk's fans and friends (100s, actually!) have requested starting a fundraiser to place a memorial (near his grave) for Kisk, who died quietly and comfortably at an old age on Dec 2, 2024.
Please see Kisk's Facebook page at

The most frequently requested memorial is some sort of permanent (stone/concrete) statue to place near his grave at the pedestrian bridge near Mile Marker 6. Others have mentioned a Memorial Bench. A few have mentioned some sort of cat/animal charity for any funds raised over the goal--currently at $900.
Putting it up for a preliminary vote, I've found that the most popular vote for a memorial statue is a concrete (16in tall and 50lbs) cat statue which looks like Kisk and will cost anywhere from $200-$300. This is my first time doing GoFundMe, so I'm not sure yet how/if I can post a photo of the statue. When/if I can, I will post it ASAP. This statue will probably work best due to its size and weight, which will make it much less likely to be 'removed'. This statue can also be secured through more permanent means of installation.
Placing a stone memorial was the most popular choice for a permanent monument. After that, many mentioned a memorial bench to be placed near his gravesite. After doing much research on this topic, I've found that an appropriate memorial bench will cost anywhere from $700-$1,500+. Currently, we are aiming for about $700 for a nice, usable bench with a memorial plaque, for taking a rest on the trail and for reflection on Kisk's life and impact.
Anything collected over the amount listed, after purchasing and placing a stone memorial as well as a memorial bench, could be dedicated to something like a feral cat rescue or other animal-based charity.
For full disclosure and accountability purposes, I'm requesting someone to consider stepping forward to help manage the fund. Please contact me to volunteer.
Please take a moment to consider making a donation, and please feel free to share this GoFundMe page with anyone else you think might be interested.
Thank you for sharing your expressions of condolences, memories, love, and appreciation for Kisk at his passing.
