Kim's eye treatment - help her keep her sight
Donación protegida
Hi, my partner, Kim has type 2 diabetes. After many years of struggling to manage her blood sugars, it is affecting her eyes. She is now getting black patches in her eyes, caused by lack of blood getting to the vessels. It is happening rapidly and is obscuring a third of her vision. There is no guarantee that this these patches will ever go away - she could slowly lose her sight.
Naturally, Kim is terrified of this. But unfortunately, NHS wait times for referrals and appointments are taking far too long. We have been to eye casualty on a number of occasions and there is no sense of urgency, even though they know that the longer she waits, the greater risk of more vision loss.
Quite frankly, I have had enough. I can't bear to see her suffer and go through such long waits, whilst she is experiencing visual disturbances like blocked vision and flashes in her eyes. Back when it was affordable for us, we took her to a private practice where the support there was amazing, but it wasn't cheap - the appointment was about £500. This is something we cannot afford anymore due to change in circumstances. I don't know what cost it would be for her to receive treatment for her diabetic retinopathy privately, but I expect it to be more as it will not just be a consultation. Laser treatment costs up to £1100. Here is their fee list: https://www.edgbastoneyeclinic.com/fees/
I am expecting fees to go up to £2,000. Any excess I will donate to Dog's Trust, Kim's favourite charity of choice.
If you can help towards funding private treatment that I don't want her to wait for through NHS, I would be more grateful than you can imagine.
I have told Kim about this fundraiser and she feels incredibly awkward and uncomfortable with the idea. I wouldn't ask myself, but Kim means the world to me and I can't watch her go through this. So, if you're reading this, Kim... Tough! I love you too much.
Thank you so much for reading,
John
