On Saturday 28th September 2019 the Kidsgrove Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps became European Champions at Enschede in Holland, having been crowned UK champions the week before.
However, our success was soon overshadowed by problems on our way back to the UK.
On leaving the stadium on Saturday evening, our drumline equipment truck had engine problems and broke down just a few miles outside Enschede. Thankfully the AA was able to recover this and it finally made it back to Kidsgrove late on Monday afternoon on a recovery truck. We now have to look towards further repair bills for this vehicle.
On Sunday another of our equipment trucks had a blowout on a French motorway and the driver lost control. This resulted in the truck tipping onto its side. We are happy to report that the driver and passengers are, whilst shaken by the accident, all now safe and home. However, this accident has caused considerable damage to the vehicle and we expect it to be written off. This was carrying all our electronic equipment and vibraphones which have also sustained substantial damage. The truck and equipment is now stuck in French compound and we desperately need to arrange recovery.
Our final equipment truck was damaged whilst it was parked at the service station. The side guard rail was removed, however, nobody stopped to admit liability and so we are left with a further bill to repair this.
With all of these problems, we need your help to raise funds so that we can recover our equipment from France, purchase a new truck, repair the other vehicles and finally replace/repair all of our electronics equipment. This will allow us to continue to provide a great experience for our members as we move into the 2020 Drum Corps season.
