This year, we are raising money for RMHC. Specifically, we are honoring my good friend’s Matt and Lindsay Scalise’s child - Dominic Scalise. I asked Matt and Lindsay to give us a summary of their experience with RMHC. Here it is…
“Our son Dominic was born in 2017 with unexpected health issues. Unbeknownst to us, he had Down Syndrome, congenital heart disease, and (worst of all) a rare colon defect called Hirschsprung’s disease. Dealing with the challenges that come with a newborn baby diagnosed with Down syndrome and CHD was fairly easy compared to the difficulties he faced dealing with his Hirschsprung’s disease. He spent the first 3 years of his life in and out of children’s hospitals from Chicago to Columbus Ohio as we had to watch him undergo several surgeries and procedures to help him do the simple things that most people take for granted. Fortunately for us, we were never far from him. The Ronald McDonald house charity was always there for us - letting us all stay together so that we could maintain some semblance of normalcy during those trying times. No matter where Dominic was, the wonderful people at RMHC always found a room for us so that we could be close by. We cannot overemphasize the importance of what that meant for our family, and we are eternally grateful to the organization.
Thankfully - Dominic has turned the tide over the last two years. He is a happy and relatively healthy 5 year old who has had minimal issues compared to the first few years of his life. Please support the RMHC so that other families in challenging situations can continue to benefit from their mission as we have.”
