It is with a heavy heart that we learn Kelly's sweet Mom, Jill Beck, has transitioned onto the next chapter this morning- but not until putting up one hell of a fight. After hearing the story of Jill's 17-year journey with cancer, it is no mystery where Kelly got her strength and determination- the apple did not fall far from that awe-inspiring tree.
In the days since the situation became more unstable over two months ago, Kelly has been a faithful daughter and caretaker- driving back and forth (over 5 hrs away) weekly to be by her mother's side and has put nearly 6,000 miles on her car in that short time to simply work a couple days a week in order to pay her Charleston bills. Those who love her have longed to help ease her stress and make life easier on her, often feeling helpless in this painful process.
It is time to step in and help.
Kelly is faced with needing to come back to Charleston in the following days to work when I truly believe she needs this time with her family to rest, heal, and honor her mother's memory. I believe that it is the best gift that we, her friends, could give her right now- the gift of comfort. The comfort in knowing that she is so very loved, and the comfort of knowing that her financial responsibilities at home do not need to come before this time of bereavement and reflection. I know that comfort in the form of hugs, love, and tequila will come in due time from us all, but right now- this would be a huge help.
I spoke with her briefly today and begged her to allow me to create this fund. She hesitated with concern that she would put people in an uncomfortable situation, and I immediately reassured her that her friends are more than happy to help in any way we can because we all know that she would do the same for us, and then some! In fact, she HAS done the same for us and continues to be a bright light in the hearts of so many.
