Dara and Kea's Forest Hills Kitten Rescue 2025

Hi! We're Kea and Dara, roommates and cat lovers in Forest Hills, Queens. We each have our own cats and previously rescued Kea's beloved (former) feral, Lasagna, who lived a happy indoor life with us until he passed away two years ago.

We've been watching a cat colony across from our apartment grow larger over the past year and a half. While neighbors have successfully TNR'd most of the adult cats, one female eluded capture and has now had two litters. When we learned that one of her five older kittens was tragically hit by a car, we knew we had to act.

With NYC rescues and shelters completely overwhelmed, we couldn't find financial help or placement support. But we couldn't wait. We took matters into our own hands and have successfully trapped, spayed/neutered, and begun socializing two of the four remaining kittens from the older litter.

We've already invested our own money into veterinary care (spay/neuter, vaccinations, health checks), trapping equipment, and supplies to house and feed the kittens. An itemized list can be found below.

We're asking for help covering these expenses so we can minimize our own financial strain. Any funds raised beyond our goal will directly support TNR and/or adoption efforts for the remaining cats in our colony - either through our continued efforts or donations to local rescue organizations.

This cat colony has become part of our neighborhood, and we want to manage it responsibly. While some "community cats" will remain outside, we're committed to preventing further growth (one cat can have up to five litters a year!) while giving socialized cats the chance at the safer, happier indoor lives they deserve. THE KITTENS

Both names come from Chappell Roan song lyrics - both kittens were caught while she was playing at Forest Hills Stadium.

Saskatchewan:

boy, six months old, 7.8 pounds

He was the friendliest of any of the kittens while outside, so we were not surprised that he immediately loved pets! He is super sweet, with the loudest purr, but also seems extremely chill.

California:

girl, six months old, 5 pounds.

She is super vocal with the squeakiest meow! She was immediately very interested in our other cats and took a little longer to warm up to us, but now she loves pets as much as her brother!
