Jeff's Transplant Journey

As many of you know, Jeff Osler, my brother and father of two daughters Bailey ,17 and Caroline, 14 has been in and out of the hospital over the past 10 months. During a camping trip in Pensacola, Fl last April,  Jeff became very ill. He spent the next 4 days in ICU and had lost almost half of his blood due to esphogeal varices caused by liver disease. Upon returning to Indiana, with already mounting medical bills  he was advised to see a GI Specialist to monitor the varices. In late fall after developing pancreatitis his GI doctor suggested he see a vascular surgeon to explore the option of placing a shunt on his liver to help the blood flow from the liver through the portal vein. At this time they also ordered a biopsy on the liver. It was determined the shunt would not be beneficial. In late December the biopsy results showed stage 4 liver disease and determined the only solution to save his life is a liver transplant. At this time, he is unable to work due to the steps needed to prepare for the transplant. The main focus now is for him to be able to continue his Cobra coverage during this process. We are unsure what will happen if he is forced to go on Medicaid or Obamacare. He is being treated at IU Transplant, considered to be one of the best and most successful liver hospitals in the country. His monthly Cobra expense is $707 a month and his medications  are continuing to grow as he waits for a suitable donor.     At this point in time, we want Jeff to be able to focus on what is important, getting healthy.
