Kayla's Fight Club

On January 13/2017 life changed for 25 year-old Kayla. She had a lingering cough, swollen joints, headaches and blurred vision throughout her pregnancy. When her son Leighton was 2 months old Kayla had a chest X-ray and CT scan done. That’s when she received the terrible news that she had stage IV lung cancer that had spread to her liver, bones and brain. Kayla and her husband Jordan went into fight mode. 2 weeks after diagnosis Kayla found out that she has a gene mutation called “ALK”. The mutation allows her to take targeted therapy pills from home. Unfortunately the first pill only worked for four months. The second medication just stopped working as well after 6 months. This is where Kayla’s journey gets hard. Her options are chemotherapy, try to get a new targeted therapy that isn’t available in Canada yet or travel to Boston to join a clinical trial.
Each option brings its its own financial strain. Especially if Kayla and her husband and son have to travel to Boston for a few months. Your support would help Kayla’s family so much during this tough time.
