Our dear family member, Kayla, is currently fighting a medical battle larger than life itself. Unfairly, it has already taken her beautiful baby boy, John F. Ashburn IV, from her and has left her with brain cancer.
On Thursday, May 2nd, Kayla and her family, were enthusiastically preparing a gender reveal party in Colorado for John and Kayla’s firstborn. A time of great excitement and joy for family and friends soon turned to an evening of complete heartache.
That night at her parent’s home, Kayla, with no prior medical history, suffered a series of seizures. Her family had her rushed to the ER where the doctors suspected eclampsia and highly recommended an immediate cesarean section to save both Kayla and hopefully the baby.
Kayla, heavily sedated at the time, was unaware of the birth of baby John Fenwick Ashburn IV. A brave little fighter at 25 weeks old and 1 pound 12 ounces, impressed doctors and nurses. Soon after a CT scan of Kayla’s brain revealed a cancerous tumor, roughly the size of a plum, in the frontal lobe.
Doctors worked all through Friday to stabilize Kayla and baby John. Early Saturday morning both Kayla and father John were rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit. Tragically, their precious baby boy passed away in the arms of his loving parents due to complications of a brain hemorrhage.
More uncertainty lies ahead as Kayla prepares to undergo brain surgery to remove the tumor. Please help us bring Kayla some comfort and alleviate the stress of medical expenses. We want John III and Kayla to focus on her and the fight ahead right now, not the never-ending bills that accompany her battle.
