Kayce’s Heart Surgery

Kayce was born Monday, February 19th, 2024 at 12:01 am in Pocatello, Idaho. A seemingly healthy baby boy with two big sisters who thoroughly adore him. Before being released yesterday, a routine test was preformed to check oxygen levels in the blood. This test indicated something was wrong. After further tests, Kayce was diagnosed with a Critical Coarctation of his Aorta- a severe pinch in his Aorta. He was also diagnosed with a Ventricular Septal Defect, and an Artial Septal Defect. A small blood vessel that babies are born with has been acting as a temporary bybass. This usually closes within 72 hours after birth. Kayce’s doctor explained that without this routine test, which was only put into place within the past few years, Kayce would have been sent home and died only a day or two later. Kayce was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital yesterday after this discovery. A central line was put in to deliver medication to his heart to keep blood flowing while his doctors prepare for surgery on his heart. He is currently stable with this medication, but he is having difficulty breathing. After the surgery, recovery at primary children’s hospital will be a minimum of 2 weeks. Kayce’s Mom (Bridget), Dad (Cody), and big sisters (Evie and Ellie, 6 & 2) live over 3 hours away. The cost of traveling back and forth and staying in Salt Lake for a few weeks will be expensive. Remaining funds will be used for medical bills and expenses. Thank you so much for your donations, your thoughts, and kind words. We will post updates as they come.
