Kane The Comeback Kid

Kane (John Wayne) Smith a happy, energetic and bright 7 year old boy has within a moments time had to face the situation that no child should have to. He suffered a substantial stroke while playing with his cousins on vacation. Upon further testing, it has been found that he has a rare congenital and progressive vascular disorder called Moyamoya disease. If left untreated it leads to progressive cognitive and functional impairment and ultimately death. His physicians have found that it is quite advanced for his age and he will need aggressive brain surgery not once but twice in an attempt to slow and correct this devastating condition. Unfortunately, his insurance coverage pales in comparison to the amount of bills that his family faces and they will mount up astronomically (it's an Oklahoma well child plan). Not only will he face significant brain surgery but soon has to suit up for aggressive and extensive physical therapy. This little guy went from a weekend of having fun at the Yates county Fair in Penn Yan, NY with his cousins and swimming in their pond without a care in the world to laying in a hospital bed unable to properly function on his right side; unable to eat a bowl of cereal or walk to the bathroom on his own. He is a super tough kid and the kindest most thoughtful one you'll ever meet. When asked, the one thing he said when the doctors asked him what he loved was riding his pony ..."even though he sometimes gets ornery and bucks me off". Let's get him back on that pony!!

My name is Matthew Swearingen. Kane is my nephew, my sister Jodi’s son.  As we write this, we never thought we'd be the ones organizing a GoFundMe. But here we are and we're counting of all you wonderful people to step up and help and we can't think of a better reason or a better time. All funds raised will go to the family to be used toward medical bills and related expenses. Kane has a strong support group. He has an even bigger God! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
