Juticia Racial: Livestream Fundraiser
Join us this Sunday from 2-4 PM at bit.ly/JusticiaRacialShow as we celebrate Xicanx culture and activism. Sunrise SD will be raising $3,000 in solidarity with compas in Otay Mesa Detention Center on behalf of Detention Resistance. We must fight to dismantle these concentration camps and ensure a just and livable future for those seeking refuge from oppression.
At the Sunrise Movement, we know that the U.S. emits some of the highest greenhouse gases in the world. The U.S is responsible for displacing millions of people from their homes, not only through imperialist aggression but also through the acceleration of environmental degradation in areas such as Mexico and the northern triangle of Central America which destabilizes local economies and farmers' livelihood. Yet our government is quick to condemn people seeking refuge and asylum.
We ask that you make a commitment to support Detention Resistance by making a cash donation of what you can afford. Detention Resistance is providing humanitarian aid to refugees and asylum-seekers at Otay Mesa Detention Center while focusing on abolishing the inhumane oppression enforced by racist institutions like ICE and for-profit detention centers. Detention Resistance amplified the voices of compas in the detention center when they organized a hunger strike in April 2020 in protest of the horrific conditions during the coronavirus pandemic. Detention Resistance amplified the story of Carlos Ernesto Escobar Mejía, who’s medical neglect led to his tragic death which could have been prevented.
Sunrise will follow the lead of abolitionist groups like Detention Resistance who are non-institutional, non-partisan, and autonomous. Our goal is to raise $3,000 by Sunday night 9/27, and we hope that you contribute today. Whether that is $2.70, $27, or $100 - every dollar counts.
