Juanita's Housing

Juanita is 78 years old and has lived alone and supported herself for many, many years. Her only income is social security and she is not and has never been on any public assistance.  She has trouble getting around now although, overall she is in good health.  Her condo was in foreclosure and as her Realtor we sold it in a short sale. She will get no proceeds from the closing although the bank is forgiving the rest of her mortgage.  There is no family to help with money or a place to stay. I've helped her apply for Baptist Tower Low Income Housing and she should get in sometime after the first of the year. We visited the Baptist Tower and she is excited to go there.  There is a waiting list, but it's the shortest in town.  I've packed up her condo, Cedar Lake has taken everything else. We've gotten her a storage unit and scheduled a moving company for Sunday.  After Sunday she will be staying in her empty condo until the closing on Wednesday.  At that time, she has no place to go. I've called every agency in town (at least 45) and most churches. No one can help. It seems that she falls between the cracks.  If she lost her house to a natural disaster she would get a place, if she was on public assistance she would get a place, if she was handicapped and needed assisted living she would have a place.  Everyone and all of the agencies I've spoken with have been wonderful and has tried to help.  There simply is "no room in the Inn"!  The problem is that she will have no money and everything we've found is too expensive. I have suggested a shelter until her appartment is available, but she's terrified of that option. I do not want to see a 78 year old lady end up in her car through the winter and the holidays, but without any money that is looking all too likely. 

The money donated would go to pay for temporary housing until her spot at Baptist Tower is available.  Any funds that are left over will be donated to help the indigent.
