We have tried to avoid getting to this point, but unfortunately things have progressed to a point where we feel as though we have no choice but to reach out for support.
We are the children of Kurt Abegglen and are reaching out to share the story of an incredible husband, father of six, and a true fighter. He’s been courageously battling cancer since January 12, 2023, and our family is humbly asking for your support during this difficult time.
On January 12, 2023, Kurt was diagnosed with stage 3 sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma (sRCC), a rare and aggressive form of cancer. To give a bit of a backstory, it began in his kidney, which was removed through surgery. Shortly after, we learned the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes and then to his lower spine. Kurt underwent multiple rounds of radiation and started a year-long immunotherapy regimen, receiving infusions every three weeks in hopes of stopping its progression.
Despite these efforts, on December 4, 2024, we received heartbreaking news: the cancer has spread to his lungs. This has been a devastating blow for our family, but Kurt’s courage and determination to fight remain unwavering.
Kurt is not just an incredible fighter; he is a devoted husband to Maria and the proud father of six children: Anthony (Rachel), Matthew (Luna), Jessica (Will), Kyle (Dakota), Kevin (Olivia), and Christian. He has also recently become a grandfather for the first time with another grandbaby on the way. He has always been a source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love for his family and everyone fortunate enough to know him.
For over a year, Kurt has been unable to work due to his illness and is now on long-term disability. While this provides some support, the mounting medical bills, ongoing treatments, medications, and travel expenses for care have become something we were not prepared to handle.
We are starting this GoFundMe to help ease the burden of these expenses so that Kurt can focus on what truly matters: fighting this battle and spending precious time with his loved ones. Every donation, no matter the size big or small, makes a difference and brings us one step closer to ensuring he gets the care and support he needs.
If you are unable to contribute financially, it is completely understandable. We would still kindly ask that you share Kurt’s story and keep him in your thoughts and prayers. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this incredibly challenging time.
Let’s come together to show our dad and our family that we are not alone in this fight.
With gratitude,
The Abegglen Family
