Join Us in Backing Juddy's Road to Recovery

On Thursday, June 6th - our lovable goofball, Juddy, my brother - suffered a sudden and very severe brain bleed that landed him in Bellevue Hospital in critical condition and almost took his life. Since that horrible, life changing moment, the doctors and nurses at Bellevue Hospital have nursed him back to life. Doctors are not sure what caused this stroke but theorize it could have been the result of high blood pressure or a preexisting condition he was born with. In the face of this unexpected tragedy Juddy has displayed unbelievable courage and has been fighting like the Masshole that he is to get better.
He is vocal and cognitively improving every day. He has improving but limited mobility
on his right side. However, he has not yet regained any mobility on his left side.
Unfortunately, the road to recovery for Judd is going to be long, painful and full of ups
and downs. It will be the hardest thing he has ever done in his life. It will also be a
challenge for the people who love him and are helping care for him. Judd has made incredible improvements - from his physicality to his speech and of course still has the best sense of humor. A big part of that progress has been the love and support he has gotten from his friends and family.
A few weeks ago, he was moved out of the ICU and to the rehabilitation floor of the
hospital and has been working tirelessly with his therapy team to get back to himself.
On July 27th, Judd will be moving over to a care center that specializes in his targeted
accredited program. This program can last up to 52 weeks but if Judd keeps kicking
ass, could be a shorter period. To be clear Judd has a long way to go. He will require
another surgery to install titanium mesh to replace a part of his skull that was removed
when doctors saved his life. If you know anything about Judd, he's the toughest guy
around and will get through all of this. But while he fights, we need your help even more.
Unfortunately, with this horrible situation comes difficulty with expenses. Judd has
insurance and it seems, that for now, it should cover most of his care. But more
important to his recovery is having his family and friends around him to keep him
company, raise his spirits and advocate for him in this tough time. The Magee’s and
others have been traveling to from Boston and other areas to be at his side for the last
month and a half. As you might imagine this long-term care situation has created a
difficult financial situation for them as well.
These past weeks and months have shown Judd’s family how genuinely loved he is by
anyone who's lucky enough to be in his life. We've been getting nonstop calls, texts,
food, gift cards etc. from everyone in Judd's life and we could not be more grateful.
Justin is someone who never lets you leave a room without showing you how much he
cares. He loves his friends and family more than anyone we know and just wants to see
everyone happy, so let's do that for him now because if anyone deserves it, it's Judd.
We are asking for contributions to this Go Fund Me to help defray the medical and other
costs associated with assisting in Judd’s recovery. Unfortunately, the rehab center is in
an isolated area of Corona Queens difficult to access using public transportation. He
could be there for up to a year. Any donations you might be generous enough to give
will be used to help cover the cost of transportation to and from the rehab facility, hotels
for out-of-town family coming to be with Judd and to help pay Judd’s expenses and
financial obligations that have begun to pile up while he is incapacitated and out of
work. So, please spread the word to anyone and everyone who might be able to help. Any
assistance you can bring to this dire situation would be greatly appreciated and never
forgotten. Please continue to keep Juddy in your thoughts and prayers. –
On behalf of Jackie, Big Judd, Kathy, Jill, Faith, Raymond, DJ, Michael and the entire
Magee/Dove family - we are forever grateful for the love and friendship you have
already shown and whatever you may help us to do in the future.
