Joey's New Hearing Aids
Joey is a student at Lipscomb University. He isn't your average twenty something year old student. He has years and wisdom to his advantage, but obviously has a passion to learn.
Joey is pretty quiet in class, but after we struck up a conversation I figured out why. He told me about his hearing loss, which is hereditary. Since he has lost a good majority of his hearing he has felt the need to withdraw from his surroundings. Joey often is misunderstood. People mistaken his inability to keep up a conversation (due to hearing loss) for a lack of intelligence. He certainly does not lack any smarts!
A few days ago in class he came to me and showed me his "demo hearing aids" the doctor gave him. He was trying them out for a few days and then had to give them back. When I asked him his thoughts about them he said, "I got pretty emotional, because I heard things I haven't heard in a long time." I asked what he heard and his response humbled me, "I heard crickets, the birds chirping, and I couldn't figure out what the ticking sound was in my car. It was the blinker! I love them!"
Here's where you come in:
Hearing aids are VERY expensive and insurance does not help. Joey deserves to hear those sounds again, so please donate anything you can to help Joey get his new hearing aids!
The goal is to raise this money by Tuesday (October 3rd).
