Joe Marzan Medical Expenses
Don protégé
I hope everyone is safe and well. As you know, Joe Marzan is my husband. I never thought I would be posting a GoFundMe page, but Joe is sick, and we need help with the cost of his medical treatment. Joe is very prideful and stubborn and did not want me to go public with this. While he will not be happy, I’ve made the decision to move forward.
In 2018, Joe started limping and with many tests and doctor appointments he was diagnosed with Progressive Muscle Atrophy, which is a Motor Neuron Disease. It is a slow-moving and unpredictable form of ALS (Lou Gehring’s disease). This has gradually impacted his ability to ambulate. As you know, Joe is a fighter and he has battled to keep his daily living despite his illness and disability. Unfortunately, his condition has become progressively worse and he needs the use of a wheelchair to get around.
Joe’s doctor has agreed to try some new therapies for treatment. The first is the use of peptides that would need to be injected daily. The other is a stem cell where the doctor would inject stem cells into his spine. This aggressive plan of action is not covered by insurance and is very costly; $900 per month for the peptides and the stem cell placement is approximately $10,000.00. The doctor will not start the therapy until we have the funding for it. In addition, Joe has just been approved to be seen at UCSF; we are currently awaiting to schedule his first appointment. UCSF specializes in Motor Neuron Diseases along with ALS. We will need to make trips to San Francisco for those doctor appointments as well. If we could handle the medical expenses ourselves; I would have not started this page. But the costs are overwhelming, and the funds are becoming depleted.
All the proceeds raised will go towards Joe’s medical bills. To help get the word out, we are humbly asking our friends to share the link on their Facebook timeline, Instagram, text, or any social media forms.
Words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation for your donations. I love my husband unconditionally. Our family wants to do whatever we need to do to slow the progression of the disease and make Joe’s life better. With your help we can go to war against this terrible disease.
Please keep our family in your prayers. The power of prayer can move mountains and create miracles, and honestly, we need a miracle. Starting and sharing a prayer chain can be powerful.
From the bottom of my heart, Thank You.
