Jim's Cancer Journey
(At the urging of friends who want to help financially, I *Jenni* decided to cave in and set up a place for people to do this if they want to.)
So, if you've found this spot, you probably know that Jim has been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer and the doctors tell us ultimately that it's incurable. How long this journey lasts will depend on decisions that Jim makes, medicines and medical care that is available to him, and God's grace. But I'm being practical and acknowledging that, barring a full-blown miracle from God, there is only one outcome to expect, and I'm acting accordingly.
We have good insurance, and we have a nest egg. But as one friend pointed out, things creep up on you and usually you don't have enough in the end after all. So this fund is to help cover those extra expenses and protect the savings that we've worked hard to build over the years.
The goal amount is arbitrary. I needed a number, so I put one in. However, I will say that any money donated will be used towards medical co-pays and whatever isn't covered by insurance, and expenses for medicines, and then later for hospice and funeral expenses whenever that day comes. And when all is said and done, if we have covered all expenses and there is money left over, it will be donated to some cancer-related organization either for research or for care for other families.
So again, please understand: We are not in desperate straits. We will be fine for awhile. But as time goes on, I'm sure expenses not covered by insurance will eat away at the resources we have. Those who feel that your thing is to help financially, you can help us protect what we have by contributing to this new, extra "cancer bucket" (if you're a Dave Ramsey fan).
