Jazmin’s Healthcare Expense Fund

Hi, I’m Michelle. I’m Jazmin’s Aunt. Jazmin came into this World a tad too early and a tad too fragile. Tipping the scales at a whole 2lbs, 4oz, she encountered some early medical

interventions that had long term effects; leading to multiple hospital stays, procedures, specialized medications, diagnoses and lifelong restrictions.

Now she is an incredibly resilient 14 year old. She has thrived in school. She is an honor student. She has dreams of being a surgeon. She is taller than me (that’s not TOO hard). She is an amazing big sister to Gavin.

But these last 2 years have taken a toll on her body. Last year her cardiac and respiratory systems started to show signs of failure. Her care team has spent months trying to get to the root of things however her condition continued to worsen. And here we are. On Monday she passed out at school and they had to call 911. When she got to the hospital her labs and scans were significantly worse than lasts months. She was transferred to the Cardiac ICU at Boston Children’s where she will remain for the foreseeable future. After exhausting all other possibilities, it has been determined that she needs a Lung Transplant ASAP.

This unbelievable news has sent our family into a bit of a tailspin. My sister (Melissa Sands) had to take a leave from work. Her pay and health insurance WILL be impacted. But, Jazmin comes first.

My sister is the type to help everyone. (She rearranged her whole life and home to take care of me when I was injured). But she would never ask for help for herself. I had to BEG her to let me do this. Because it’s for Jazmin.

Jazmin deserves a healthy life. And my sister deserves to see her kid grow up. They have never had it easy and I’d love to ease some of their burden.

The funds will go to my sister Melissa Sands- to support Jazmin’s immediate medical needs- hospital bills, copayments, medications, premium payments, transportation costs and potentially PT and nursing care. As well as offset the loss of income for their household.
