Jasmine's Study Abroad in Havana
Donation protected
Hi everyone! I am Jasmine Young, a junior, Family Science major with a Human Development minor at the University of Maryland, College Park. I have been given an amazing opportunity to do a short term abroad in Havana, Cuba. Thankfully, I have been awarded a scholarship and a grant that will cover the majority of costs, including tuition. I am raising money to cover the cost of roundtrip airfare, meals, activities and any incidental expenses that may occur while abroad.
This trip will take place this summer, June 2019. I will be taking a course at Univdersidad de Havana studying Law, Public Health, and Family. I will be fully immersed in Cuban culture and staying with a host family. I will have the opportunity to tour a Cuban hospital, meet with doctors, lawyers, professors, and judges. I will have the opportunity to do a comparative analysis on Cuban public health and the United States Public Health. I will be learning the differences in how law and politics govern public health in a country and be able to compare that to the United States.
The funds raised will help me to fully experience studying abroad. This trip means so much to me after previously having to turn down a study abroad experience due to funds. I have always been interested in learning about other cultures and even more interested in public health and policies affecting health, not only in our own country. This is truly an experience of a lifetime and something that I have a strong desire to do before graduating next May. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
